According to a CNN poll released Wednesday, Trump's approval rating has reached a historic low of 33%, with only 13% saying they "strongly" approve of his job performance. Yahoo Finance reports that 51% of respondents now "disapprove strongly" of his performance.
The economic issues driving these low numbers are severe. Yahoo Finance notes that just 27% of voters approve of Trump's handling of the economy, while 73% disapprove. On inflation specifically, approval drops to 20%. Two-thirds of respondents told CNN that Trump made economic conditions worse, and majorities view his tariffs and the Iran war as negative factors for their personal finances. Only 28% of respondents said economic conditions are good.
Voter anxiety is widespread. According to Yahoo Finance's reporting of the CNN poll, 57% of voters feel "uncertainty" about their financial futures, and 49% feel "stress." Just 23% said they feel "certainty," representing a 7-point drop from spring. More than a third said they aren't sure they can maintain their standard of living, worse than conditions at the end of the Great Recession.
Reputedly helping Republicans little are their recent policies. Yahoo Finance reports that few voters say they benefited from the 2025 tax cut package or new federal savings accounts for newborns and children. In August 2025, only 28% of voters said their congressional vote would send a message of support for Trump. More than two-thirds of registered voters told CNN that the economy is "extremely important" to their November vote—a higher percentage than in the previous two midterm elections.
