Alec Bohm's postseason performance could reshape his free agent value after a disappointing regular season. His .698 OPS in 155 games and -0.2 bWAR put him on track for only a small one-year deal this offseason, but a strong playoff run could change that calculation.
Bohm found redemption in the second half of the season, batting .312 since the All-Star break with an .824 OPS, ninth in the majors. This turnaround matters because free agent value is on the line: instead of being forced into a minimal prove-it contract, a solid postseason could land him a multi-year deal with options or better terms on a one-year agreement.
However, Bohm's postseason history works against him. He managed two home runs with 14 RBIs in 30 games during the 2022-2023 playoffs, but hasn't driven in a run over eight games in the past two Octobers as the Phillies lost in the NL Division Series both times. His .660 postseason OPS this year falls well short of the .889 he posted last year.
This is Bohm's fifth consecutive postseason appearance. According to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand, a strong offensive and defensive playoff run could rewrite his narrative, though a World Series MVP would likely be needed for a serious multi-year deal without conditions given his poor regular season numbers.
