At the Human Rights Campaign's National Dinner on Sunday, Camryn Manheim joked from the stage that despite her best efforts, her son is heterosexual. "I have photographs of my son in high heels, in full drag, he knows every word to every musical ever written," Manheim said, adding that she thought "I had this f---ing thing locked up, but no, no, he's the only straight guy in his entire musical theater company."
Manheim, best known for her role as Ellenor Frutt in the late 1990s and early 2000s drama series "The Practice," presented her friend and fellow actress Marcia Gay Harden with the Ally for Equality Award. She contrasted her experience with Harden's, saying that when Harden called her a decade ago to say her son was gay, Manheim replied: "All I said was, 'Oh my God, you are so f---ing lucky!'"
Manheim elaborated on what she felt she missed by not having a gay son, saying: "I love that relationship between gay sons and their mothers. I wanted to be the picket sign-holding mom who would beat the s--- out of somebody for her kid. I mean, let's just admit it, gay sons are the best, right?" She noted that her son's fairy godfather, Aaron Walton, was present at the event.
Milo Manheim, Camryn's only child and 25 years old, is an actor best known for his starring role as Zed in the Disney Channel film franchise "Zombies." He appeared in the 2023 Christmas musical "Journey to Bethlehem" and placed second on season 27 of "Dancing with the Stars" in 2018.
