Matt Rife earned between $40,000 and $60,000 annually in Los Angeles before discovering TikTok, a salary that qualified him as "very low income" by the city's cost of living standards. He moved to Ohio to Los Angeles expecting to follow the traditional path: become a regular at famous comedy clubs like the Laugh Factory, Comedy Store, or the Improv, where talent scouts would spot him and offer television or sitcom roles.
Instead, early success on MTV's "Wild 'N Out" faded, leaving him at professional "rock bottom." That's when social media changed everything. Despite telling Fox News he "hated" TikTok and "never wanted to be a part of it," Rife posted viral crowd work clips that accomplished what years of chasing Hollywood's traditional pipeline could not.
Today, Rife has 20.3 million TikTok followers and a reported net worth of $40-50 million. "The reach on there is incomparable," he told Fox News at the Walmart Arkansas Music Pavilion ahead of a show. His viral success has led to roles he credits to social media, including a starring role alongside Owen Wilson in the upcoming "Rolling Loud: The Movie," scheduled for release on October 2. "Owen Wilson is one of the people that made me want to be an actor," Rife said.
