Ted Lasso paid respects to Anthony Head, who died in June 2026 at age 72 from complications due to pneumonia. The Apple TV comedy series featured a tribute card before the end credits of Season 4, Episode 9, titled "Mae Rides the Bus."
Head played Rupert Manion, the former owner of AFC Richmond and ex-husband of Rebecca Welton, across 18 episodes in the series' first three seasons. His family released a statement saying he "passed away peacefully of complications due to pneumonia, surrounded by his family." They added: "It has been, and forever will be, an honour and a privilege to be his daughters, and to have witnessed firsthand the impact both he and his work have had on so many."
Cast members shared their condolences publicly. Brett Goldstein called Head "a brilliant actor" and "the best person," describing him as "infinitely charming and kind and fun and a joy." Hannah Waddingham reflected on his influence on her performance: "There is no Rebecca without Rupert. He undoubtedly made my Rebecca what she was. He was one of the finest gentlemen I've ever met." Jeremy Swift posted: "Goodbye Tony, we adored you, Rest in Peace my friend." Actress Annette Badland remembered him as "funny, bright, inclusive, generous" with "wry humor" and "a very beautiful man."
