Khaw Boon Wan, 73, concludes a five-year tenure as chairman of both SPH Media Trust and SPH Media Holdings. Reflecting on his departure, Khaw described the period as a rewarding chapter and stated that the company is currently in a strong position. He officially passed the baton to Chan Yeng Kit, who will now serve as executive chairman while maintaining his existing responsibilities as chief executive officer.
This leadership transition is significant for the organization as it continues to adapt to a rapidly shifting media environment. Khaw’s time at the helm included navigating the company through the transition from a publicly listed entity to a Company Limited by Guarantee. Furthermore, the board credited his leadership for steering the firm through the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic and broader changes within the media landscape.
According to SPH Media, these changes became effective on Oct 1. Alongside the chairmanship transition, deputy CEO Kuek Yu Chuang has been appointed as managing director. Kuek, who previously held roles at Netflix and iQIYI, will now lead daily operations and oversee medium-term growth plans.
In addition to the top-level changes, the company is refreshing its board to support future growth. Four directors are retiring, with four new members joining: Mohamed Irshad, Edward Chen, Kohe Hasan, and Liew Wei Li. These new directors will work alongside existing board members, including Elaine Yew, Max Loh, Philip Lee, and Quah Ley Hoon, to guide the organization into its next phase.
