For 26-year-old actress Chen Yixin, prioritizing safety in a new city came at a significant cost, with a monthly rent of €2,300 for a 32-square-meter apartment. Despite this high expense, the initial move-in process was marred by poor sanitary conditions, including stains on beds, hair throughout the unit, and bugs found inside the coffee machine.
While the rental price is a significant financial strain, Chen explained that securing a safe living environment with a building reception was her top priority upon moving to France. The financial weight of the apartment, which she noted is beyond her sustainable budget, has left her feeling stressed as she considers her long-term housing options for her two-year stay.
The apartment search and relocation process was managed through an agency. Following the inspection, the landlord apologized for the state of the property and arranged for a professional cleaning and pest control service. While the inspection confirmed the presence of bugs in the furniture, experts indicated they were not bed bugs and were not expected to spread, according to reports from AsiaOne.
Chen, who is pursuing studies in fashion and creative direction on a scholarship, moved to Paris in September 2026. She is currently using personal savings to manage her living expenses as she navigates her first few months in the French capital. As she adjusts to her surroundings, she plans to look for more permanent and affordable long-term accommodation.
