The developer revealed that the upcoming RuneScape 4 is currently in production using the advanced Unreal Engine to deliver a modern, next-generation experience. While the studio is using the internal working title RS4, this installment signals a massive shift in technical capabilities for the long-running franchise. Jagex showcased a teaser trailer during the event, though no official release date for the title has been set.
For existing fans, the immediate focus is RuneScape Reignited, which launches on December 2 as a pivotal effort to welcome back lapsed players and engage current ones. According to Jagex, this update introduces a Remastered Journey, an updated Adventure Guide, overhauled high scores, and a fresh economy. To encourage engagement, all players can access Reignited content without a membership between December 2 and December 12.
The studio also outlined a comprehensive roadmap for 2027, described as the most extensive in the game’s history. This roadmap includes three major story arcs: Hoard of Dragons in January, City of Gnomes, and the Secrets of Karamja, which features a new endgame raid. Additionally, players can expect an agility skill rework, new solo bosses, and a fresh Grandmaster Quest.
Beyond gameplay updates, Jagex is expanding the franchise into entertainment. In partnership with YouTuber Charlie "MoistCr1TiKaL" White and Lyrical Animation, the company is developing an animated series set in the world of Gielinor. CEO Jon Bellamy announced the production during the festival held in Birmingham, UK, marking a significant step in the studio’s efforts to broaden the reach of the iconic MMORPG.
