Air quality levels across Singapore surged into the unhealthy range as the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) peaked at 184 in the central region by 1 pm on October 9. This figure surpasses the previous high of 167 recorded in the same area on September 29. Western parts of the island also experienced significant pollution, with the highest hourly PM2.5 reading for 2026 reaching 171 at 2 am on October 9. Throughout the day, PSI readings fluctuated across the island, with north, south, east, and west regions logging figures between 127 and 174.
According to the National Environment Agency’s haze advisory, the current air quality levels necessitate precautions for the public. Healthy individuals are advised to reduce prolonged or strenuous outdoor physical exertion. Meanwhile, vulnerable groups, including children, pregnant women, the elderly, and those with chronic heart or lung conditions, are urged to minimize or entirely avoid outdoor activities while PM2.5 levels remain elevated.
As the haze persists, the Singapore Tourism Board and event organizers have established contingency plans for the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix. Measures include providing N95 masks and medical assistance at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. While the FIA indicated that entertainment activities might face restrictions if conditions worsen, the race itself is not expected to be affected. Government agencies remain in coordination with the Haze Task Force to monitor visibility, health impacts, and operational requirements. Event promoter Singapore GP confirmed it is closely tracking weather conditions as part of standard operations, with commitments to communicate any adjustments through official channels.
