With about 200 metres to go in the 2,400m Caulfield Cup, Half Yours was in the middle of the pack when contact appeared to occur with Kings Valley, sending the horse and jockey Mark Zahra down hard. New Zealand mare Ohope Wins, winner of the Oaks at Randwick in April, also fell after jockey Jye McNeil could not avoid the fallen horse. Stewards confirmed that Zahra and McNeil were both "conscious and alert" and were transported to hospital for further assessment.
The fall disrupted a major racing day, with the crowd of 30,051 at Caulfield marking the largest turnout for Caulfield Cup day in a decade. The final race of the day was delayed as a result of the incident.
Trainer Tony McEvoy assessed Half Yours after the race and reported the horse had returned to his stall and was "all OK" according to Racing.com. McEvoy said the horse had suffered some abrasions but appeared to be in good condition overall. "The horse, he's got a couple of lacerations, he seems bright, he seems composed in himself," McEvoy said. "He's got a laceration under his arm, he's got a laceration on a hind leg. They look superficial."
Kingswood claimed victory in the Caulfield Cup. The condition of Ohope Wins remained unknown at the time of reporting.
